Shuhrat Abbosov — an Uzbek actor, director, and screenwriter. Abbosov is considered one of the founders of Uzbek cinema art. Abbosov has received several prestigious titles and awards to date. He has received the titles of People's Artist of the Uzbek SSR, People's Artist of the USSR, and Hero of Labor. Abbosov's film «Mahallada duv-duv gap» (Talk of the Neighborhood, 1960) is considered one of the best Uzbek films.

Shuhrat Abbosov was born on January 16, 1931, in Kokand. He graduated from the Tashkent Medical Vocational School in 1949. In 1954, he graduated from the Alexander Ostrovsky Tashkent State Institute of Arts. He worked as a professor (from 1983) and department head (from 1991) at the same institute. Between 1954 and 1956, he served as the chief director at the Mannon Uygʻur Regional Musical Drama Theater (in Yangiyol). Later, he went to Moscow and studied at Mosfilm. Abbosov worked as a director at «Oʻzbekfilm» from 1958 to 1991 and served as its director from 1982 to 1986. Starting in 1996, Abbosov worked as the deputy chairman of the Union of Cinema Workers of Uzbekistan.

Shuhrat Abbosov is the director of several films. Together with Alexander Naumov (II), he wrote the screenplay for the film «Shum bola» (The Mischievous Boy, 1977), based on Gʻafur Gʻulom's book of the same name. The film comedy «Mahallada duv-duv gap» (1960) was his first success. Abbosov directed the film «Sen yetim emassan» (You Are Not an Orphan, 1963; International Film Festival award, Frankfurt Main, 1963), about the courage of the Shomahmudov family from Tashkent, who raised 14 children of various nationalities left without parents during World War II; and the film «Qalbingda quyosh» (Sun in Your Heart, 1965) about morality. He became known as one of the best film directors with the films «Toshkent — non shahri» (Tashkent — City of Bread, 1967; film festival winner, Almaty, 1973) and «Sevgi mojarosi» (Love Conflict, 1971; 5th film festival winner, Tbilisi, 1972).

His historical-biographical works are also famous, including «Abu Rayhon Beruniy» (2 parts, 1974, Grand Prize of the 8th film festival, Kishinev, 1975, winner of the International Film Festival's "Golden Dolphin", Tehran, 1977), «Olovli yoʻllar» (Fiery Paths, a 17-part TV film dedicated to the life of Hamza, 1975-1984), and «Katta urushdagi kichik odam» (A Small Man in a Big War, 1989), which tells about the hardships behind the front lines during the war years.

Independence brought a turning point in Abbosov's work. He created the 14-part documentary «Kamolot choʻqqisi sari» (Towards the Peak of Perfection, 1995) and the 2-part feature film «Otamdan qolgan dalalar» (Fields Left by My Father, screenplay co-written with M. Toʻychiyev, 1998).

Abbosov has staged several works for the theater. He directed plays such as «Yurak sirlari» (Secrets of the Heart, B. Rahmonov), «Nurxon» (Komil Yashin), and «Ogʻriq tishlar» (Aching Teeth, Abdulla Qahhor).

Shuhrat Abbosov is a recipient of numerous titles and awards. In 1965, he was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist of Uzbekistan. In 1974, Abbosov received the title of People's Artist of Uzbekistan. In 1974, he was awarded the Hamza State Prize of Uzbekistan. Abbosov was awarded the prestigious title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1981. Abbosov was awarded the «Shuhrat» medal in 1994 and the «El-yurt hurmati» order in 1998.
